Came across a video on YouTube the other night, showing an application for Android devices called DroidStar.

The app is described on the Google Play Store as:

“This software connects to D-STAR, DMR, Fusion, NXDN, P25, M17 reflectors and AllStar nodes via IAX over UDP. It uses open source vocoder software for all digital modes, and requires no AMBE hardware or silly remote AMBE servers. Dstar encoding is currently not acceptable for QSOs, so TX has been disabled.”

I installed the app, and chose DMR from the list. I added my local clubs TG, entered my call sign, DMR ID, and Brandmeister password. Pressing connect, it connected to the BM network and I can send and receive to my local club talk group.

So far, so good.

DroidStar is free, and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. As of the time of writing, I am not aware of a comparable app for Apple users.
